This is dark thriller that doesn’t let go. You just keep on turning the tightly written pages as you learn the story of the narrator, one hyper-suspicious therapist with an addiction problem.

It all started two decades ago—missing girls and a serial killer who terrified the community. And then we learn her father was locked up for the crimes, creating even more misery for not only for the victims’ families, but her family, too.

Now, twenty years later, young women are once again turning up dead, and our narrator believes it’s a possible copycat who’s purposefully pulling her into the middle of the murders. Because of her erratic behavior, no one, including the police, believes her. Can she really figure out who’s guilty?

This thriller had an ending I never saw coming!

We learn about the brave war-time nurses who served in Vietnam, especially one young woman who followed her brother into war. While it is the ultimate, very personal coming-of-age story about Frankie McGrath, author Kristin Hannah simultaneously tells a powerful, epic story of a nation divided over the Vietnam War and its ignorance over the heroic nurses who served.

When Nurse Frankie McGrath returns to the anti-war US, another challenging journey of survival begins.

A magnificent historical novel that reads like a thriller!

I’m a fan of the earlier books, but Beyond the Secret Lake, is the one I like the most!

First, this is a superbly plotted mystery that will quickly grab middle grade readers. Half the fun is figuring out ‘Who done it?’ and author Karen Inglis does not disappoint.

As the series has evolved, so have the children from two different centuries. Their friendships have strengthened, and their time travel makes it possible to help each other. In this novel, the main characters from the present have been invited back in time to join up with the others as houseguests at the marvelous Penworth Estate in 1913. It belongs to Lucy’s godmother, and the children’s curiosity leads them to conclude that something is not quite right at the estate.

They’re determined to get to the bottom of things by using teamwork, brainstorming, planning, surveillance, and fact-gathering from people who’ve been at the estate for many years. No matter the century, this engaging gang of kids is quick-thinking, supportive, sensitive, and fully committed to the truth. They also serve as entertaining, charming guides for us, the readers, as we try to figure out the mystery.

Having long been a fan of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher books, I came late to this show. I clicked on Episode 1 with my fingers crossed. Wow! The entire series is fabulous! From a well-executed tight story to the superb fight choreography (warning, the series is violent) and most of all, the excellent casting of Jack Reacher. This is how I imagined the big, strong, physical Jack Reacher — calm, hyper-focused, highly intelligent, and silent until words are required. I also loved Reacher’s romance with Roscoe in Season 1, who may be petite but a great match for Reacher when it comes to toughness and fearlessness.

It’s hard to decide which of the two seasons is better. I think I may like the second even more. When members of his old unit in the military are killed, he gathers up the remaining men and women of his unit to get to the bottom of things. Reacher and his team are highly effective at seeking revenge. Again, a nice touch of romance with one of the members of his team who takes the initiative.

Alan Ritchson hits a home run as Reacher, and I look forward to many more seasons of this series. 10 Stars!!!

Reading a Barbara Hinske novel is guaranteed to take one into a more caring and connected world with clear-thinking characters who do the right thing, notwithstanding the inherent drama in each story. It’s kind of like watching a good movie on the Hallmark Channel, a place you want to go to after a challenging day for some peace and confidence that at the story’s end all will be right with the world. Down the Aisle more than succeeds with Emily Main and guide dog Garth at the center of the action.

The novel continues to reveal how Emily has created a vibrant life for herself and her family despite her blindness. It’s been enlightening to learn more in each book with four-legged Garth as her devoted friend and teammate in this part of her life. In addition, her blended family adds another compelling layer to the story, and don’t we all yearn for such well-behaved and bonded family members.

The will-the-plane-crash-or-not-premise has been done before, for example, if you saw the 2014 movie, Non-Stop with Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore. Still, there was enough of a fresh and unusual take in Falling to keep one turning the pages quickly in a race to the end.

I became a fan of her last three “high-concept” novels – Summer of ’69; 28 Summers; and now Golden Girl, which I think is my favorite of the three. Actually, I don’t really feel like I’m reading out of my usual genre, because there is plenty of mystery to go around in this novel. And the way Hilderbrand writes about the Great Beyond is priceless!

Then almost halfway through the author did something completely unexpected, something I cannot reveal because it would be a spoiler… but it was brilliant, and I was hooked and raced to finish the book. The ending also surprised me, and I loved it!

The author does a terrific job putting the reader in the middle of the action – whether up in the air inside a Vulcan bomber or on the ground tearing through the English countryside to secure life-and-death information. And in the predominantly male world of the RAF in the 1960s, I really appreciated the time he took with the female characters, especially Susie. I’d love to see her return in a future James Blatch book. Highly recommend this debut novel!
