Ronnie’s dog, Warrior

Ronnie Lake’s beloved German shepherd, Warrior, is a retired war dog. To learn more about these incredible heroes and why they are so critical in combat, read The Dogs of War by Michael Paterniti and photographs by Adam Ferguson in the June 2014 issue of National Geographic. http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2014/06/war-dogs/paterniti-text

Here is a terrific video about Layka, the retired war dog who is on the cover of the June 2014 issue of National Geographic. http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2014/06/war-dogs/layka-video

Finally, a very moving video on the National Geographic site about the war dogs left behind in Vietnam. http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2014/06/war-dogs/memorial-video

On a different, but personal note, I wish to again ackowledge Walter Sutton, senior training manager for The Seeing Eye, Inc., who generously shared his extensive knowledge of the German shepherd breed and gave of his time to help me write about the breed correctly. I am indebted to him. Walt is involved in such important work at The Seeing Eye in New Jersey. Please take a moment to learn more at this link. http://www.seeingeye.org/

Thanks,
Niki
